We spent the morning with a pair of humpbacks off the Heads who were cruising north. Towards the end of our time they erupted in a wonderful tail slapping display. Then this afternoon we found another lovely pod of three whales who were also having fun with their tails. ???

Today was one of the best days of the season so far. We had incredibly active whales on both our morning and afternoon cruises. No matter how many times we see whales breaching it never ceases to amaze and astound us. Humpback whales are known as the acrobats of the whale world and today was a prime example of this. We witnessed some fantastic breaching, tail slapping and tail throws. We also had the privilege of seeing a lovely Southern Right Whale mother and calf at the Heads on our way back in. We gave them plenty of space as these special whales are so few in number that they are still endangered in our waters. Wonderful to see a new calf in such a small population. We hope that they both stay safe.
